Salamol Easi-Breathe

Salamol is a brand name for the medicine Salbutamol. It belongs to the class of medicines called Short Acting Beta Agonists (SABAs) and works by relaxing the walls of the airways. This can help relieve symptoms like chest tightness, breathlessness and wheezing, that are associated with Asthma or COPD flare ups by increasing the ease with which air can go in and out of the lungs

Salamol inhalers can be administered using Easi-breathe inhalers (which deliver the medicine automatically on inhalation) or CDC free inhalers (which deliver the medicine when inhalation and pressing on the canister is co-ordinated). You can buy Salamol Easi-Breathe easily, conveniently and reliably from Meds For Less and have the inhalers delivered to your home within 24 hours.

Salamol Easi Breathe is a breath actuated inhaler which uses the bronchodilator medication salbutamol. It is used to relieve symptoms of breathlessness and wheezing associated with the conditions like Asthma or Chronic Pulmonary Obstructive Disorder (COPD) during acute attacks.

The primary mechanism of action of Salbutamol (The active compound in salamol Easi Breathe) is relaxing the muscles in walls of the airways, this expands the air passages and makes it easier to breathe.

Unlike traditional inhalers which require manual activation (by pressing the release) when breathing in, Easi-breathe inhalers automatically deliver the medicine to your airways when you inhale through the mouthpiece. This design can be particularly helpful if you have trouble coordinating the pressing and inhaling actions required with natural inhalers.

To use the the salamol Easi-Breathe inhaler, simply follow the steps below:

  • Hold the inhaler upright and shake it well to prime it
  • Open the cap and ensure the mouthpiece is clear
  • Breathe out gently to clear your airways, then place your mouth around the mouthpiece and form a tight seal with your lips
  • Inhale slowly and steadily, the inhaler will release a puff of medicine automatically
  • Continue to breathe in deeply, remove the inhaler and hold your breath for 10 seconds
  • Breathe out gently, away from the inhaler.

If you require a second dose, close the cap, wait one minute and then repeat the steps  above.

After you have finished using the inhaler, close the cap and keep the inhaler safely for use the next time you may need it.

Using your salamol Easi-breathe inhaler is essential for effective symptom relief from asthma or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder (COPD). The breath actuated inhaler releases a dose of medicine automatically when you breathe in. The following is a step-by step guide to ensure proper usage:

  • Prepare the inhaler:
    • Hold the inhaler upright and close the cap that covers the mouthpiece and shake the inhaler well to mix the medicine properly
  • Priming the inhaler (when necessary)
    • If this is your first time using the inhaler or if you haven’t used it for 5 days, you may need to prime it and test spray it.
    • To prime your inhaler, unscrew the top of the inhaler to access the metal canister inside
    • Open the cap, shake the inhaler and press the canister to release two test sprays in the air, away from your face.
    • Close the cap over the mouthpiece, and put the top of the inhaler back on again.
  • Administering the medicine dose:
    • Breathe out gently to clear your lungs
    • Open the cap of the inhaler and create a tight seal around the mouthpiece with  your lips, place the inhaler between your teeth but don’t bite down on it.
    • Breathe in slowly and deeply, the inhaler will automatically deliver the appropriate dose as you breathe in. Do not stop breathing in while the inhaler puffs, continue to take a slow, deep breath.
    • Remove the inhaler from your mouth and hold your breath for 10 seconds (or as long as is comfortable), to allow the medicine to settle in your lungs.
    • Breathe out slowly and gently.

After you have finished using the inhaler, close the mouthpiece immediately to protect the inhaler.

If a second dose is required, wait for one minute and then repeat the steps as above.

Salbutamol is not a steroid based medicine. It belongs to a class of medications called bronchodilators, specifically Short Acting Beta-2 Agonists (SABAs).

Salbutamol’s mechanism of action involves relieving symptoms of asthma and COPD by binding to Beta receptors on the muscle cells that compose the walls of the airways. This action causes these muscles of the airway to relax and air to flow more freely in and out of the lungs.

This is particularly important in Salbutamol’s work as a blue inhaler reliever during asthma or COPD flare ups, as a prime biological change during those flare-ups is the constriction of airway muscles which restricts air flow.

Steroid inhalers (Whether used alone or as part of Anti-inflammatory Reliever (AIR) therapy) have the function of lowering inflammation around airways and thereby preventing long term constrictive remodelling of airways.

Salbutamol is a Short Acting Beta-2 receptor Agonist (SABA) that works primarily by relaxing the muscles of the airway and allowing easier airflow in and out of the lungs.

Salbutamol  binds to the Beta-2 receptor on the smooth muscle cells of the airways. When these receptors are stimulated by salbutamol, it triggers a signalling cascade via a chemical known as adenylate cyclase.  These signalling cascade leads to the evenual activation of an enzyme known as protein kinase A (PKA), the overall effect of which is to relax bronchial smooth muscles and inhibit short  inflammation around airways from mast cells.

The outcome of this is that airways open up and breathing becomes easier. The symptom relief this provides is reduction in wheezing, shortness of breath, coughing and chest tightness.

The dose administered through 100mcg Salbutamol puffs. The medicine begins working within 5 minutes of taking it with the peak effect typically seen in around 30 minutes. The total duration of this inhaler is 4-6 hours, after which the effect wears off and hence, why it is known as a reliever inhaler.  Preventer inhalers (composed of steroids) have a longer duration of action and hence prevent long term remodelling of the airways caused by inflammation.

Like all medications, Salbutamol has some side effects, however these don’t affect everyone and most of the time the side effects are mild.  These side effects are common regardless of using salbutamol based inhalers like Salamol or Ventolin.  An overview of these effects shows:

Common Salbutamol side effects  (Mild symptoms due to stimulation of  beta (b)1 or 2 adrenergic receptors) include:

  • Tremors/shaky hands –  due to stimulation of b2 receptor on skeletal muscles
  • Increased heart rate- due to stimulation of b1 receptors in the heart
  • Nervousness or anxiety- due to whole body activation of the adrenergic system
  • Headache-mild vasodilation and tension
  • Muscle cramps – due to electrolyte (potassium) shifts
  • Dry mouth or throat irritation – due to inhalation via airway.

Less common but more serious side effects:

  • Palpitations or irregular heart beat
  • Chest pain
  • Sometimes Paradoxical bronchospasm – (in rare cases , salbutamol can paradoxically worsen breathing)
  • Low potassium (Hypokalemia) at high doses
  • Hyperglycemia (mild increase in blood sugar)
  • Allergic reactions like rash or swelling

If you experience an allergic reaction like rash or swelling, seek help immediately.

If you are having any concerns regarding side effects of your salamol inhaler, it is advisable that you speak to your healthcare provider as soon as possible.
