More Information

nurofen

This medicine works through its active ingredients, Ibuprofen and Codeine phosphate. Ibuprofen, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), provides relief by altering the body’s response to pain, swelling, and high temperature. Codeine, an opioid analgesic, acts to relieve pain and can be used alone or in combination with other painkillers such as paracetamol. This medicine, containing codeine, is suitable for short-term relief of acute, moderate pain in children over 12 years of age when other painkillers such as paracetamol, ibuprofen, or aspirin alone are ineffective. It can alleviate pain from migraines, headaches, neuralgia, period pain, dental pain, back pain, and rheumatic and muscular pains.

Yes, it can be addictive. This medicine contains codeine, which can cause addiction if taken continuously for more than three days. Prolonged use may lead to withdrawal symptoms when you stop taking it. Additionally, using this medicine for headaches for more than three days can worsen them. While following the instructions on the pack generally prevents addiction, certain situations necessitate consulting a doctor. These include needing the medicine for extended periods, exceeding the recommended dose, or feeling very unwell when stopping the medicine but experiencing relief upon resuming it. For further details refer to the Patient Information Leaflet or consult your doctor.

It is advised to limit the use to a maximum of three consecutive days. Should there be a requirement for prolonged usage, it is imperative to seek prompt medical advice.

Do not take this product during the last three months of pregnancy as it could harm your unborn child or cause problems at delivery, including kidney and heart issues in the baby, bleeding tendencies, and delayed or prolonged labour. During the first six months of pregnancy, Nurofen Plus should only be taken if absolutely necessary and advised by your doctor. If treatment is needed during this period or while trying to conceive, use the lowest dose for the shortest time possible. If taken for more than a few days from 20 weeks of pregnancy onward, Nurofen Plus can cause kidney problems in the unborn baby, potentially leading to low levels of amniotic fluid (oligohydramnios) or narrowing of a blood vessel (ductus arteriosus) in the baby’s heart. For longer treatments, your doctor may recommend additional monitoring. Do not take codeine while breastfeeding, as codeine and morphine pass into breast milk. For further details refer to the Patient Information Leaflet
