Chlamydia stands as one of the most prevalent sexually transmitted infections (STIs), often stealthily infecting individuals without displaying noticeable symptoms. Yet, if left unchecked, it can lead to severe complications for both men and women. Fortunately, detecting it is a swift and painless process, and once identified, it can be effectively treated with a simple course of antibiotics.

Chlamydia is the most diagnosed sexually transmitted infection (STI) in the UK, affecting both men and women. It often has no symptoms, so you might not know you have it. The only way to find out is to take a test. Even if you don’t think you’ve been at risk and you don’t have any symptoms, taking a chlamydia test is still a good idea – it’s a simple way to find out how easy it is to get tested.
Knowing when to test for chlamydia and gonorrhoea is crucial for maintaining sexual health. Testing is recommended if you’ve never been tested for these infections before, if you’ve had sexual contact with a new partner since your last test, or if it’s been over a year since your last test. Additionally, testing is advised if you’ve engaged in unprotected sex or if a condom has broken during intercourse. Pregnant individuals should also undergo testing, as well as after any new sexual partner, as infections can be detected as soon as two weeks after sexual activity. Regular testing helps ensure early detection and appropriate treatment, promoting overall sexual well-being.
For women, the Meds for Less home test kit is a vaginal swab test, resembling a long cotton bud. You insert the swab into your vagina and rotate it for 10 to 15 seconds. Once you’ve obtained your sample, place the swab into the provided tube, fill out your details, and send your sample back. Test results are typically received within 2 to 3 days after we receive your sample in the post. Women also have the option to get tested for chlamydia with a urine (pee) test, although the results are generally less accurate than a swab test. Refer to the inside of the kit for full details.
For men, the Meds for Less home test kit is a urine (pee) test. It contains a small plastic sample bottle, as well as another large bottle. You will use the small bottle to collect your pee. Try to collect your sample the first time you pee that day, as it will give a more accurate result. Once you have collected your sample, you will place the small bottle in the bigger bottle, along with the absorbent paper supplied. Then simply fill out your details and send your sample back to us. You get your test result within 2 to 3 days after we receive your sample in the post. Men can also get tested for chlamydia with a urethral swab test, usually carried out by a doctor during an appointment, but the urine method is just as effective and easier to do. Refer to the inside of the kit for full details.
Test results will be returned as either ‘positive’ or ‘negative’. A positive result indicates the presence of Chlamydia , while a negative result signifies no infection has been detected. Regardless of the outcome, your online doctor will provide guidance on your next steps. Occasionally, your doctor may inform you that your result is ‘inconclusive’. This indicates that the result was not definitively clear, requiring you to undergo another Chlamydia test using the same method as before.
