It could take 2-4 months before you notice a difference. Unlike other hair removal creams that dissolve existing hair, Vaniqa gets to the root of the problem by inhibiting new hair growth in the follicle. If you haven’t seen any results after 4 months, you should stop taking Vaniqa and contact your doctor.
The majority of side effects are minor. Vaniqa can sometimes cause acne, as well as skin stinging, tingling, soreness, and redness. It is uncommon for treatment to be stopped due to these side effects.
See the patient information leaflet for a complete list of instructions and side effects.
Eflornithine is the active ingredient in Vaniqa. This inhibits new hair growth by inhibiting an enzyme involved in hair growth at the base of the hair follicle.
Vaniqa is not a depilatory cream (one that removes hair). If you prefer, you can continue with your regular hair removal routine while using Vaniqa.
Hair growth that is excessive can be a sign of underlying problems. We recommend that you visit your doctor if you notice sudden hair growth. Vaniqa should be avoided if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as well as if you are trying to conceive.
Vaniqa, like all medications, has the potential to interact with others. This is why it’s critical that you tell us about any prescription, over-the-counter, or recreational medications you’re taking so that we can safely prescribe Vaniqa.
Shaving, waxing, epilation, electrolysis, laser treatment, and bleaching are all options for hair removal. Obese women’s facial hair can be reduced by losing weight. The contraceptive pill can help some women who haven’t reached menopause manage their excess hair. If you think this might be the best option for you, talk to your doctor about it.
