Because Co-cyprindiol (also known as Dianette or Clairette) is a contraceptive pill, it is best to begin taking it on the first day of your period, continue for 21 days, and then take a 7-day break. When taken at the same time each day and in this manner, co-cyprindiol will act as a contraceptive.
Every evening, apply a thin layer of Duac gel to the affected area. It should not be used on skin that is broken, irritated, or sunburned.
Co-cyprindiol works to treat hormonal acne by blocking the hormones that cause acne and thus preventing acne from forming.
Clindamycin phosphate (1%) and Benzoyl Peroxide are the active ingredients in Duac gel (3 percent ). These two ingredients work together to kill acne-causing bacteria while also breaking down blackheads and whiteheads. Duac gel, in turn, reduces the inflammation and redness that are commonly associated with acne.
This acne treatment combination package will attack acne from multiple directions. The combination of these two medications will be most effective for women who have pustules, which are white-tipped red spots, as part of their acne.
It may take 4 to 12 weeks before you notice a difference in your condition, so stick with the acne treatment regimen.
A mild burning sensation, redness, dryness, and peeling skin are some of the common side effects that people who use Duac gel may experience. This gel, like all products containing Benzoyl Peroxide, will make you more sensitive to sunlight, so wear an SPF of at least 30.
Some women may experience side effects from co-cyprindiol, such as mood swings, weight gain, headaches, nausea, and sore breasts.
See the patient information leaflets for Co-cyprindiol and Duac gel for more information on side effects and proper use.
Neither medication should be used if you are pregnant or nursing.
